Summer of Fun | Haf o Hwyl

After the success of last year’s Summer of Smiles and the Winter of Wellbeing, a ‘Summer of Fun’ festival will take place for the children and young people of Cardiff across the summer holidays.

Cardiff Council’s, Welsh Government funded Summer of Fun programme is offering opportunities and activities for 0-25 year olds across the city from July to September. Their Child Friendly Cardiff Team is coordinating the programme aimed at supporting Cardiff's future generations with their social, emotional, mental and physical wellbeing over the summer.

The Summer of Fun will cover three areas:

  • A two-week festival on City Hall Lawn

  • Citywide activities

  • An arts and cultural programme curated by Arts Active

Main Festival Site City Hall

July 23rd to August 7th

"Come and join us on City Hall Lawn for a Summer festival of fun-filled activities. Join in on various workshops, watch fantastic theatre, spectacular performances, contribute to the communal Art installation, play games, or just enjoy the Sunshine.

Thursday morning sessions: Although the entire festival will be inclusive and neurodiverse friendly, the first session of every Thursday will be quiet sessions that tailor specifically to neurodiverse children, young people and their families."

Citywide Activities

July 23rd to September 5th

"To connect with as many children and young people as possible during the summer holidays, a large number of organisations are providing a wide range of activities in areas across the city.

There is a map on the Child Friendly Cardiff website showing which organisations are taking part in each area and details of how to get involved.

Some of the activities on offer are: cycle training, sailing, Aquapark experience, young drivers, junior triathlon, Welsh Provision – Urdd Gobaith and other Community Grants. "

Arts Programme hosted by Arts Active

"Throughout July and August Arts Active are working with partners across the city to run a range of fun arts events and activities for children, young people and families. The showcase event will be the Out of Doors Live on the City Hall Lawn where from 23 July - 7 August there will be a packed programme of arts activities and entertainment. As well as this the Arts Programme will be heading out into community centres, youth centres and leisure centres across Cardiff to offer further fun arts activities for all ages."

More details of the programme are being regularly added to the Child Friendly Cardiff website: https://www.childfriendlycardiff.co.uk/
