Carnegie Centre Volunteer Garden Clear-Up Autumn 22

Dear Parent/Carers,

As most of you are aware we have successfully extended and developed our outside area over the last year. It currently incorporates a basketball/football court, woodland area, raised bed allotment, a covered outdoor classroom (built by our learners) and a lawned play area.

There are many other projects in the pipeline over the next year: a relaxing zen space, fitness equipment and more areas to encourage wildlife. A pond and further development of the classroom will support these plans.

We at the Carnegie Centre are wondering if you would like to be a part of this process. We are hoping to have an Autumn garden tidy up to prepare for the Winter and next year’s growing season. Do you have any skills that may be useful for this task or are you just willing to put in some good old-fashioned hard work?

Jobs that we will be trying to achieve are:

· Sweeping up leaves and muddy areas and remove to compost or bin

· Clearing the courts and pressure washing them

· Clearing the trampolines

· Weeding all the raised beds

· Painting tyres and pallets to brighten up the area

· Planting bulbs

· Marking out a boundary for the wildlife area

· Making an all-weather sofa out of soil and artificial grass

We will also be seeking support to lay a patio area outside the classroom. We have the slabs but will need the expertise to lay them safely.

Are you able to support us with your learner for a few hours on Wednesday 12th Oct or Wednesday 19th Oct from 2.30-4.30pm?

If yes, please email schooladmin@brynyderyn.cardiff.sch.uk to let me know your availability.

Many Thanks

Mrs Hughes
