EMA Guidance for 2022-23

If your child is continuing with education after they have turned 16, they may be entitled to an Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA). If eligible and meet the attendance criteria, learners will receive £30 every week .

Important Dates

  • June 2022 – to make sure your EMA application is assessed and ready for the start of term send your completed form back to us, with all the appropriate evidence, by June 2022.

  • 8 weeks after course start date – to be considered for backdated payments you must apply within 8 weeks of the start of your course.

  • 31 August 2023 – this is the final date that we can accept an application from you to be eligible for EMA in 2022/23. Once you’ve filled out the form and sent it to us, we will assess your application and write to you to let you know if you are entitled to EMA.
